Anthology of horror tales directed by Freddie Francis. Set in the asylum of Dr. Tremayne Donald Pleasence, the film tells four short, horror-filled stories that explain why some of his patients went mad. In 'Mr. Tiger' Paul Russell Lewis, a young, troubled boy befriends an imaginary tiger. In 'Penny Farthing' an antique shop owner is transported back in time by a bicycle in his store. In 'Mel' Brian Thompson Michael Jayston brings home a dead tree, names it Mel and displays it as art, much to the dismay of his wife Bella Joan Collins.
